While not the rainiest state in the nation, Washington State takes on average an impressive 38.15 inches of rainfall each year. Coupled with a solid annual deluge is the state’s ability to claim 5 major volcanoes within the Castle Range, all part of the Ring of Fire that comprise a total of 10. Those 5 big players in the Ring of Fire begin with the massive 14,410 foot Mt. Rainer, and many might remember the last eruption of Mount St. Helens in July 10th of 2008, along with Glacier Peak, Mount Rainier, and Mount Adams. If that’s not impressive enough, this state hosts the most glaciers, at more than 3,000, within the United States.

Who can deny that Washington is host to some of the greenest and coolest cities in America? Here’s a few of my personal favorites:

  • Seattle: The city that rests over Elliott Bay is host to Amazon and Starbucks but don’t let that fool you; Seattle is a city dense in foliage and well known for rain. As the birthplace of grunge music, there is a deeply embedded artistic community. A city for foodies and coffee addicts, so many of the Seattle neighborhoods have truly unique personalities. Of course, the Space Needle Pike Place are points of pride. It’s one of the most scenic and iconic cities in the country.

  • Bellevue: The crown jewel of Lake Washington with waterside boutiques and restaurants, the city quietly overlooks the marinas chalk full of boats. Just east of Seattle, Bellevue is considered by many to be one of the most beautiful places in the country to live and visit. Cougar Mountain Regional Wildlife Park is in close proximity to the city and offers incredible hiking and scenery, among the many other equally impressive parks nearby.

  • Spokane: Many would argue a city that rivals any other on the bays of Lake Washington with formerly dilapidated industrial facilities like warehouses quickly become the new, trendy places to be from restaurants to breweries to coffee houses. Fairhaven, a historical landmark in the city, is a neighborhood that can’t be missed.

Of course, with a state as beautiful as Washington comes the attraction to live there, and that comes at a price. According to Zillow, there was a 4.9% over the past year with a predicted 4.8% rise within the next year, with median home values at $419,923. Of course, exactly where you live in the state will determine the cost of your homeowners insurance. Insurance providers will take into consideration how prone your location is to natural disasters, rate of property crime, construction materials, how populated your area is, the age of your home, and your proximity to a fire station, to name a few.

Home insurance in Washington costs an average of $960, 21% lower than the national annual average ($1,200). But that doesn’t mean that we here at Hippo Insurance can’t save you even more. We utilize big data to more accurately calculate risk profiles. As a result, homeowners that switch to Hippo save up to 25% on their premiums.

Those savings don’t mean limited coverage. In fact, the opposite is true. We’ve added several essential protections not included in our competitor’s standard policies like service line and domestic worker coverage along with expanded home office coverage limits. We are a proactive partner in your home’s safety, doing whatever we can to prevent problems from happening in the first place. If we see that an extreme thunderstorm or major weather event headed your way, we’ll offer you timely tips and advice to help you prepare.

Although we use technology to improve several aspects of the insurance experience, you won’t be dealing with some automated system in the event you need to file a claim. Our claims concierge team is entirely human. We’re people, like you, and we understand how challenging it can be if your home suffers damage, we assign a single contact to handle your claim from start to end. This way, you’ll have the support and empathy you need during a difficult time.
