A Letter From Our CEO: Hippo’s Journey to Protect the Joy of Homeownership

Over the past year-and-a-half, the home has taken on many roles. It’s become our office, transformed into a personal gym and our kids’ school, moonlighted as our happy hour watering hole and served as our movie theater. Most importantly, our homes have kept us safe and healthy.

At a time when we could have all turned into prisoners of our own spaces, most of us instead rediscovered the joy of homeownership, diving headfirst into projects to improve our extended stays at home and drive our investment in the years ahead. Whether it was investing in a room to become the new home office or finally re-doing that kitchen that was driving you crazy for years, we all deepened our understanding of what matters most as a homeowner.

As homeowners focused more on their homes, it was also an important reminder of why we started Hippo in the first place.

From our beginning, Hippo has been focused on providing the most exceptional customer experience in the industry, proactively educating, alerting and supporting our homeowners to stop small problems from becoming big issues. We built Hippo on the belief that homeowners deserve a better home insurance experience and there was an opportunity to transform the market. Now, as a public company, we’ll have more resources to continue focusing on homeowners, helping them prevent claims, investing in smart home technology, researching new preventative approaches and offering more home services.

Building an insurance company for the future requires time and significant investment. We have confidence that our approach will deliver the best outcomes for homeowners and our business alike. And now, we have the capital, the team, and the resources to transform the industry.

We are leading this transformation by combining the power of technology with deep experience and understanding of insurance. We believe that Insurtech is made up of two words - insurance and technology. To us, you can’t have one without the other, to succeed in evolving this industry to its fullest potential. This has always been and will continue to be a heavy focus at Hippo.

As I reflect on today’s milestone of Hippo listing on the New York Stock Exchange, I am truly excited by the company and passionate team we’ve assembled, and what this means for the future we’ll build together. Today demonstrates that homeowners recognize that there is a new and better way to protect their most valued asset.

Thank you to every employee who has helped build Hippo over the past six years. Thank you to the investors who have believed in us since day one and most of all, thank you to our customers who put their faith and homes in our hands. This is far from the end and we are only getting started on our journey of building the next great insurance franchise.
